Shampoo, Rinse, Repeat

Is your hair lifeless or feeling a little weighed down? Then you are probably in need of a good cleanse!

Shampoo has gotten a bad rep these days, especially in the curly community, but it does serve one very important purpose...it cleanses the hair and scalp. Co-washes tend to be the go-to because they don’t strip the hair of much needed moisture. So, what’s the point of using a shampoo? As curly girls, we use a lot of different products on our hair to help hydrate and enhance our curls. If these products aren’t occasionally removed from the hair, it can wreak havoc on our scalp and our beautiful locks. That’s exactly what happened to me!

I typically wash my hair once a week. During the time in between washes, I add and reapply products, pretty much everyday. By the time I reach wash day, there’s a fair amount of product in my hair. In the past, I would lather up the shampoo, rinse my hair and then move on to the conditioner. One wash and I’m good to go, right! Au contraire, mon frère. Here is what I learned about my hair over the past few years...

First, I need to wash my hair with a clarifying scalp focused shampoo to remove the buildup. Once this is thoroughly rinsed from my hair, I need to add some nutrients back. That’s exactly why we created our shampoo with avocado and olive oil! This hydrating shampoo lathers easily on my clean hair so a little goes a long way. Once I included this second shampooing into my routine, there was a noticeable difference in the volume and feel of my hair. Instead of it feeling lifeless and dull it is now back to being big and beautiful!
